On this page we feature six castles, beginning at Blair Castle, and continuing to Glamis Castle, Menzies Castle, Dalhousie Castle, Stirling Castle and Edinburgh Castle. Along the way we visit striking Dunkeld Cathedral. The town of Monifieth, on the Firth of Tay, holds particular significance for me, for it was from here that my great-grandfather set off for his journey to Australia. Inside Menzies Castle we discover a portrait of Sir Robert Menzies, a former prime minister of Australia. At Dalhousie Castle, near Edinburgh, we fly owls from the falconry, a truly memorable experience, and see a real Scottish wedding with piper an' all. However for me, Stirling Castle was the most interesting, from James V's palace to the reconstructed kitchens, the gun batteries and the great views from the battlements. And meeting Mary of Guise was a real treat! From Stirling Castle we drove to the Wallace Monument, and found that Braveheart hadn't been entirely true to history. Of course the castle overshadows everything in Edinburgh and two days to see that, Holyrood Palace, and the amazing city itself, is hardly enough. Thank you, Scotland!
